Eurasian Sparrowhawks (Accipiter nisus)

Urban courtship in cherry blossom mood

This spring, I was very lucky to observe two Eurasian Sparrowhawks building their nest in a tree in front of my balcony. They were very busy flying back and forth as they carefully selected small twigs and carried them to their nest. I was amazed at how little they seemed to care about their urban surroundings, not bothering at all with the passers-by and the traffic below.
Then one day, something amazing happened. I saw them doing their courtship ritual right in front of my balcony, just behind a wild cherry tree in bloom. I quickly grabbed my camera and managed to take this photo of them mating. It felt like a really special moment — the cherry blossoms, the birds, the light — everything came together.
