A dipper in a magical frame

In spring 2024, I observed a pair of white-throated dippers building a nest near a flowing river over the course of a few days. These charming birds are remarkable not only for their appearance – featuring a white throat and breast that beautifully contrast with their dark plumage – but also for their behavior as the only songbirds that dive underwater in search of food. One morning, I spotted one dipper foraging among the stones at the water’s edge. Inspired by the scene, I decided to photograph it through a few nearby stones, creating an effect where the background seamlessly blended with the foreground. This formed a magical frame around the dipper, highlighting its beauty.
